Yet another high profile sailing event will commence and finish from Spain, proving its desire to increase and promote sailing. The Barcelona World Race is a two handed round the World, the City hosted it a few years back and has returned to host it again, Alex Thompson (British) has high expectations having come so close last time. The race starts News Years Eve from the heart of the City guaranting the competitors a very warm send off

Several years ago a plague of jellyfish affected the Mar Menor, they were sccoped out and the problem dissapeared. Unfortunately this year they seem to have a comeback. Swimmers have not been affected due to netted swimming areas but tin the middle of this rather unique lagoon the infestation is clear to see. Fortunately they are not stingers but nevertheless make the water less inviting for a dip. Lets hope that the authorities can get on top of the problem.

The bizarre looking catamaran powered entirely by solar panels made an entrance into Mazarron. Each engine produces around 8kw and according to the crew they rarely have to use the back up diesel. They are here raising awareness of alternative energy sources, its great to see even if the boat is not pleasing on the eye

Cartagena will once again host a leg of the prestigious Audi Med Cup regatta circuit, the event runs from the 24-29th August 2010 and the boats will be moored alongside the town quay in the evening. The best way to watch this exciting close quarter racing is from the water. El Rubicon is now available for day trips and corporate work during the period

One of our clients first questions is will I see dolphins, the normal answer is not in the bay. However this year following a 3 year drought on sightings, so far this year we have seen dolphins, a turtle and jumping swordfish, all encouraging signs that wildlife may be returning to the bay

Following a couple of weeks away the boats tied up in Santa Pola for a farewell dinner, yet another great night was to be had by all and this time we had a treble celebration, the end of the cruise, Clives (Navita III) birthday and Terry (Baltic Moon) was getting married at the end of the month. Due to the restricted bridge opening hours there was no rush to depart the following morning as we could not pass until 18.00 hours. It was back to work for us and we cherish the memories of new friends, beautiful Islands and a great trip, if you are interested on joining us on our next adventure, drop us a line for more information.

Following an uneventful crossing, the cruise arrived in Mallorca to find Sant Elmo our intended destination resembling a wave machine, I had a hunch this may be the case and a quick diversion was made into Port Andratx who were more than happy to accomodate us. Awoke to no wind and glancing up saw 3 windvanes on the mast heads all poinint in different directions, the forecast is pretty much windless for the next couple of days, so it looks like we need to explore the island by land. When in Mallorca it worth visiting the Cathedral, taking the old train to Soller and spending a few hours in the old town

The go-n-sail Cruise in Company arrives in the Balearics, so far the weather has not been great but with meals ashore, drinks on the beach and some great company the lack of useable sailing winds and brilliant sunshine has not dampened our spirits. Hoping to reach Mallorca on Friday for a couple of days before returning to Formentera.
